In honor of its completion, I'll update the information as follows:

This is a Death Note fan-based visual novel game. In the game, the player will be able to play as the main character, make choices, navigate with a map, and talk to people. Depending on the choices made, the player will receive a certain ending.

Setting: Wammy’s Orphanage, Christmas 2003 (according to the manga; first arc)
Main character: Mello
Main pairing: MelloxNear
Note: Other characters will be involved besides Mello and Near.
Plot: Being at the brink of insanity, Mello begins trying desperately harder to outdo his rival Near, even going so far as to bypass Christmas. However, on the eves of this beautiful holiday, a small hitch is thrown in his way, the competition for number 1 growing into an evermore complicated mind game. Emotions get the better of him, and in the end, the catalyst this holiday provides may just as well ruin himself, his mind, and his rival.
Release date: My goal is Christmas. However, if I find I am unable to complete it by then, I'll release a demo at this point and then release the game whenever I finish it.
Spoilers: This game doesn’t provide any important spoilers to the Death Note manga or anime. It can also be played without the need of ever having read/seen Death Note.
